Stone Cottage Domestic Heating Installation – Case Study
Take a look at the domestic heating installation work our expert team recently carried out –
Property: Mid Terraced Stone Build Cottage Near Harrogate
What the customer requested
To replace the inefficient & unsightly storage heaters
To save money on energy costs
To avoid decorating because of the size difference between the heaters.
The existing storage heaters would only heat up throughout the night and would lose all their stored
heat in the morning so by the afternoon there was no heating. To be able to have the heating on
when it was required and to the correct temperature.
The Challenges
With the property being stone-built it did get quite cold so we had to ensure this was taken into
account when designing the system.
A consumer unit with an off-peak supply powered the existing storage heaters. As we
wanted to utilise the existing power supplies to avoid new wiring, we would need to make them
permanently live.
The existing permanently live main house consumer unit was not RCD protected or up to the current
regulations.
The Solutions
During our site survey we conducted a full report including room dimensions & details of the
windows & doors
The heater manufacturer, Rointe did a full design to enable us to quote for the correct heaters that
would achieve a good heating level but also maximising efficiency.
We also considered the dimensions of the heaters to ensure that all old decorations that
was behind the existing heaters was not visible when the new heaters were fitted.
We moved the existing off-peak storage heater circuits into the main house consumer unit to ensure
they had a permanent feed. We also replaced the main house consumer unit to ensure it complies with current regulations.
